Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki

Dr. Rewat Bahadur Karki has joined as Executive Chairperson of Centre for Microfinance (CMF), Nepal on January 16, 2020. Dr. Karki holds a PhD in Economics from Magadha University, Bodhgaya, India, and MA in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and is also a law graduate from the same University. Prior to this, Dr. Karki worked as Executive Chairperson of (SEBON) for four years and led the capital market of Nepal, making structural reforms in both primary & secondary markets. Before that, he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rastriya Banijya Bank, the largest government-owned bank, was working as an freelance Economist & Expert of banking, microfinance & capital market. From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Karki worked as Executive Director of CMF-Nepal.

Dr. Karki has national and international working experience in different capacities in the banking & capital market, and other several financial institutions including development & microfinance sectors. While assuming the role of CEO and Ex-Officio Board Member of Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd. (NEPSE), he started a number of reforms including trading automation from 2006 to 2008. From 1995 to 1998, Dr.Karki worked as Executive Director from in the Mid-Western Rural Development (Microfinance) Bank of Nepal. He worked for more than 25 years at Nepal Rastra Bank, the Central Bank of. Internationally, Dr. Karki served as an Advisor to Executive Director (2002-2005) at International Monetary Fund (IMF), Washington D.C. USA, and also as an Economist (1992-1994) at the Bank of Namibia, Namibia.

Dr. Karki also worked as Director to Different Boards : Investment Banking Ltd., Citizen Investment Trust, Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd., and Credit Information Bureau including Mid-Western Rural Development (Microfinance) Bank, and Far Western Grameen Bikas (microfinance) Bank.

Dr.Karki has also worked as a resource person in different national & international conferences, seminars, trainings in addition to his participation in numerous national & international conferences (including microfinance), seminar and trainings organized by IMF, World Bank, US Securities & Exchange, SAFE, Southeast Asian Central Banks (SEACEN), Research and Training Center, Swiss National Bank, Grameen Bank Bangladesh, microfinance institutions etc. Moreover, Dr. Karki was also Chief Editor to ‘ArthikSangalo (Eco Magazine) Annual’ and ‘News Bulletin Half Yearly’ of Nepal Rastra Bank EEA, has several articles and publications on economic, financial and budgetary issues including micro finance in different economic papers and journals to his credit.
