Dr. Harihar Dev Pant, holds a PhD in economics. He has been a microfinance practitioner for the last 18 years. He is the pioneer in microfinance in Nepal who introduced Grameen Bank Financial System in Nepal through Nirdhan and Grameen Bikas Banks. Presently he is the Chairman and CEO of Nirdhan Utthan Bank Ltd., the biggest microfinance bank of Nepal. He was the first chairman of the first two Grameen Bikas Banks in Nepal namely Purbanchal Grameen Bikas Bank and Sudur Paschimanchal Grameen Bikas Bank. Before entering into microfinance arena, Dr. Pant worked for 26 years in research, banking regulation and supervision departments of Nepal Rastra Bank and resigned as Deputy Governor in 1995. He had worked also as a member of Board of Directors of Nepal Bank Ltd., Rastriya Banijya Bank, Nabil Bank and Agriculture Development Bank. He had worked as a Research Advisor to the Central Bank of the Gambia, in the East Africa, during 1991-93 under the International Monetary Fund technical assistance.
